Tutorial: Insertar una cremallera para un bolsillo - Zippered pocket

Aquí dejo un tutorial sobre cómo insertar una cremallera para hacer un bolsillo, con el método que yo utilizo. El bolsillo lo dejo para otro día, porque hay varias técnicas (forrado, sin forrar, interior, exterior...) 

Para empezar, hay que reforzar la tela con entretela; si por algún motivo no se quiere entretelar todo el frente del bolsillo, recomiendo recortar un rectángulo de entretela y pegarlo con la plancha en la zona donde va a ir la cremallera, para reforzar las costuras.

Here it is a tutorial to sew a zipper in a zippered pocket. There are many kinds of pockets (lined, unlined, inner, external...) so I will do it some other time. Today, just the zipper!
First, you must reinforce the fabric with a interfacing; if you don´t want to interface all the front of the pocket, I advise to interface at least a rectangle on the area you are going to sew your zipper on, in order to strength the stitches.

En este caso, la cremallera mide 15 cm, por lo que la abertura la haremos de 13 cm. Recomiendo dejar 1 cm a cada lado de margen, para que los cierres metálicos de la cremallera no interfieran con la aguja a la hora de coser el marco. 

Nota: si la cremallera no está cerrada, mejor dar unas puntadas a ambos extremos para poder coserla después bien centrada, de otra forma se puede abrir y retorcer. 

Después hay que decidir el ancho de la abertura, en este caso elijo 1,5 cm.

My zipper is 15 cm length, so I´ll make a frame of 13 cm. I advise to let an ease of 1cm to each side of the zipper, to avoid stitching over the metalic closures when you sew the frame.
Note: if the zipper is not closed at both sides, you´d better sew a few stitches to close them, otherwise it can open and curl up.

Then you have to choose the width of the frame, mine is 1,5 cm.

 

A continuación y teniendo en cuenta el margen de costura (en la foto, el mio es de 1,5 cm), dibujaremos la figura de la abertura, localizando el centro de la pieza de tela, que será también el centro de la abertura y dibujando el marco de 13 x 1,5 cm, dejando un margen de 1,5-2 cm desde el margen costura. En el centro de la abertura trazamos una línea paralela al marco de la abertura, uniendo a los extremos con lineas inclinadas unos 45º (Creo que queda más claro en la foto)

Next, and having in mind the seam allowance (on the picture, mine is 1,5 cm), we´ll draw the shape of the opening-frame. First, we mark the centre of the fabric piece, wich will be also the centre of the opening, and then draw the 13 x 1,5 cm frame, spacing it about 1,5 - 2 cm from the seam allowance. In the middle of the frame, we´ll draw a paralel line to the frame, joining to the ends with 45 º sloping lines. (I think it´s much more clear on the picture)

 

Después, hacemos un pespunte alrededor de la figura, por encima de las líneas dibujadas, para reforzar el marco e impedir que la tela se deshilache.

Then we´ll sew around the frame, following the drawn lines, to reinforce the opening and prevent fraying.

Cortamos la tela por la linea central y las diagonales, con mucho cuidado de no cortar el pespunte.

Cut the fabric by the central and diagonal lines, being careful not to clip the seam.

Metemos los bordes recortados hacia el revés y planchamos para que queden en esa posición. Por la parte delantera nos aseguramos de que el rectángulo queda recto.

Fold the edges to the wrong side of the fabric and press to keep them folded. Make sure your rectangle has straight lines on the right side of the fabric.

Pin the zipper in place on the wrong side

Pespunteamos alrededor del marco, lo más cerca posible del borde (en la foto, a 0,5 cm). Podemos usar el pie de cremalleras, pero el universal también sirve.
Cuando nos encontremos con el tirador de la cremallera, simplemente levantamos el pie de la máquina dejando la aguja abajo y lo pasamos al otro lado.

Topstitch around the frame, in the picture the allowance is 0,5 cm from the edge. You can use your zipper foot, but the universal works too.
When you find the zipper pull on your way, just lift the presser foot with the needle in the down position and pull it behind the presser.

Monedero de pulsera - Wristlet wallet

Mientras me animo con el top, le hice un pequeño monedero con pulsera a mi madre, para llevar las llaves, dinero, etc. Ha sido mi primera experiencia con el bolsillo con cremallera y la verdad es que me daba un poco de miedo, pero ha resultado más fácil de lo que esperaba.

He visto muchos tutoriales en la web con este tipo de monederos, así que no sabría decir si he seguido alguno concreto... sabía el tamaño final que quería (más o menos) y buscaba un acabado en forma de sobre, así que me puse manos a la obra.

Utilicé la tela French lace sky de Tula Pink, comprada en Alewives hace unos meses. El exterior va entretelado en algodón y al final me he arrepentido de no haber puesto algo de fliselina entremedias para darle un poco más de rigidez, aunque sin ella consigo esquinas más pulcras.

 ---

While encouraging myself to sew the top, I made a little wristlet wallet for my mum, to carry keys, cash, credit cards, etc. It´s been my first time with a zippered pocket, and it was a little scary, but it became easier than I thought.

I´ve seen so many tutorials on internet with this kind of wallets that I wouldn´t be able to say if I´ve  followed anyone... I knew the final size I needed (or so...) and I was looking an envelope appearance, so I just went ahead.

I´ve used this French lace sky fabric from Tula pink, bought at Alewives a few months ago. The exterior is interlined with cotton, and maybe I should have used some fleece between fabrics, to get more stiffness, but without the fleece I get sharper corners.

En su interior tiene un pequeño bolsillo para tarjetas, el cierre es con velcro y el bolsillo para las monedas queda en el exterior al levantar la solapa. También he añadido una pulsera para la muñeca y un pequeño mosquetón para engancharlo en el interior del bolso:

It has a little card pocket inside, closes with velcro, and the coin zippered pocket gets outside when you lift the flap. I´ve also added a little wristlet with a hook to attach the wallet to the interior of a handbag:

 

 

Qué os parece? Me gusta que parezca un sobre y me encanta la tela y el mosquetón de color bronce antiguo!
