Bolso con forma de sobre - Envelope Bag

Por fin puedo mostrar este bolso que he hecho para mi hermana por su cumpleaños... tenía que ser una sorpresa hasta que ella lo recibiera en su casa!

Finally I can show you this envelope bag I sewed for my sister´s birthday... It was a surprise until she received it at home! 

Ultimamente me llaman mucho las formas de los sobres, estoy tratando de dibujar varios patrones, así que seguro que coso alguno más...He utilizado lo que me quedó de la tela de tapicería del Bolso de viaje, y como forro una tela a la que mi hermana tenía cariño

I´m drawing some patterns for envelope bags, I´ve been thinking around them lately, surely I´ll sew some more...I´ve used the fabric I got left from my Travel bag, and the lining is a special fabric for my sister. 

Como siempre, lo más difícil es coser las trabillas, mi máquina casi no puede con tantas capas de tela...

As usual, the hardest thing are the loops, too many fabric layers for my machine. 

La distinta longitud de las cadenas hace que pueda llevarse en bandolera o al hombro. La cadena corta sirve como adorno también.

Different chain lengths allow to carry it on shoulder, as a short or long version. The short chain works as an ornament too.

Os gusta? Soy un poco monocromática, pero es que cuando me gusta una tela aprovecho para coser con ella todo lo que puedo..

Monederos de boquilla doble - Double metal framed purses

No sé que tienen los monederos con boquilla que me encantan, ¡son tan retro y a la vez tan modernos!

Después de mucho pensar y practicar por fin conseguí sacar el patrón para la boquilla doble, cosí tres y fui perfeccionándolos. No sé cómo será el patrón de verdad, pero el mio no queda tan mal...

I don´t know why, but I love framed purses, they are so retro and modern at the same time! After a lot of thinking and practice, I finally figured out the double frame pattern, and then I sewed three purses, I don´t know how the real pattern is, but mine isn´t so bad...

Bolso de viaje - Travel bag

 

He tenido en mente este bolso durante meses, y gracias al Purse Palooza 2012 por fin me animé a ponerme con él. Está hecho con un retal de tela de tapicería que compré en Tejidos del Centro, en Madrid, y me costó 2 €. El forro es de un mantel de algodón y las asas son recicladas de un bolso antiguo roto.

Hice el fondo cuadrado y un gusset para la cremallera para darle espacio al interior, gracias a este fantástico tutorial. Lo más dificil de todo ha sido coser tantas capas de tela, en las trabillas a veces había seis. (Creo que tengo que conseguir otra máquina más robusta si quiero seguir haciendo buenos bolsos)

I´ve had this bag on my mind for months, and thanks to the Purse Palooza 2012, I decided to go with it. It´s made with a home decor scrap bought at Tejidos del Centro, en Madrid, and it cost me 2 €. The lining is made from a tableclotch. The handles, recycled from and old bag.

I gave it a boxed bottom and a zipper with gusset, to get room inside, thanks to this great tutorial. The hardest thing was to sew so much layers of fabric, sometimes I sewed six layers at the strap loops. I think I have to get a heavier machine!

Es perfecto para viajar, grande y cómodo, con asas cortas y bandolera.

Terminada! Falda semicircular de lunares -- Finished project: Semicircular polka dot skirt

Esta es la primera falda que he hecho después de empezar las clases de costura. Hecha a medida, haciendo mi propio patrón! 

Una vez terminada, no tengo tan claro que sea mi estilo, a pesar de que la tela de lunares me encanta, parezco un pastelillo con ella...pero estoy muy orgullosa de haberla terminado!

He vuelto a hacer el dobladillo con encaje, igual que con el sorbetto, y es que me encanta el detalle y además es más fácil coser el dobladillo como una vista que hacerlo "de verdad" en una falda cortada al bies. Para las trabillas he utilizado este tutorial, de Kay, del blog The Sewing Lawyer; son super profesionales!!

This is my first skirt after starting my sewing classes. Making my own pattern!! Once finished, I´m not sure it matches my style, though I love the polka dot fabric, I look like a small cake in it... but I´m so proud of myself!

Like I did on the sorbetto, I finished the hem with lace, I love the detail and it´s so much easier for a beginner to hem this way instead of a "real" hem on a bias skirt. For the belt loops I found this great tutorial at Kay´s blog The Sewing Lawyer; they look so professional!

Spring Top 2012: Sorbetto con mangas - Spring Top 2012: Sleeved Embellished Sorbetto

Lo conseguí!! Mi primer top, un Sorbetto de Colette, terminado a tiempo para el Spring Top 2012...aún no me lo creo!

Utilicé el algodón que compré en Cartagena y decidí que añadiría una abertura en la parte superior de la espalda, para cerrarla con un botón. Y mangas, porque en el lugar en el que vivo el clima no da para tops sin mangas. Me lo he pasado estupendamente añadiendo la abertura y haciendo mi propia cinta al bies y la presilla para el botón. Cuando me lo probé la primera vez me pareció un poco soso, así que le añadí una tira de bies a la tabla central y me gustó el efecto!

Lo cierto es que me ha costado mucho más de lo que esperaba, una ve los tutoriales y tanta gente que cose su propia ropa y se dice: "yo también puedo", y sí, puedo, pero con mucho trabajo! Supongo que con la práctica la cosa se hace más sencilla pero... lo que me ha costado embeber y coser las mangas, madre mía... y rematar las costuras en esta tela tan fina que se enrollaba continuamente!

No puedo decir mucho sobre el patrón de Colette, porque es el primero que corto y coso en mi vida, pero me ha parecido que las instrucciones eran estupendas y el patrón se adapta bastante bien a mi figura. Con la tabla de medidas que trae, me costó un mundo decidir la talla, cada medida correspondía a una diferente, al final corté una 10 y me equivoqué, tuve que hacer ajustes de todo tipo, así que la próxima vez cortaré una 8. Después he leido en algunos blog que las tallas de Colette son más bien grandes, así que con más razón.

Y otra cosa, tanto el top como las mangas me han resultado bastante cortas, así que al final en lugar de hacer dobladillo he puesto un encaje tipo letín a modo de vista para no perder ni un centímetro de longitud. Además, me gusta ese detalle en el interior de la prenda.

I did it! My first top, a Colette´s Sorbetto, sleeved and opened at the top of the back, finished on time to get in the Spring Top 2012!

I had fun adding the opening at the back and making my own bias tape and the botton loop. When I tried it the first time I found it was a little dull, so I added a bias to the central pleat and I liked the result!

The truth is that it´s been harder than I thought, you see so many tuts and people sewing its own garments and think "I can do it", and yes, you can, but there´s a lot of work involved! With the practice, it must get easier, I guess, but...embedding and sewing the sleeves has been so tough! And finishing those seams with such a thin, rolling up fabric!

I can´t tell many things about Cotette´s pattern, since this is my first one ever, but I´ve found it great explained and it fitted my shape pretty well. It was tricky to decide the size with the measurements chart included in the pattern, each measurement I took indicated a different size. Finally I got for a 10 size but I was wrong, I had to do many adjustments, so the next time I´ll try an 8. (I´ve seen later in some blogs that Colette´s sizes are a little too big)

And the top and the sleeves went out too short, so instead of hemming, I put a lace as a kind of facing, to keep every centimeter of length, and I also like that little detail inside the garment.

Monedero de pulsera - Wristlet wallet

Mientras me animo con el top, le hice un pequeño monedero con pulsera a mi madre, para llevar las llaves, dinero, etc. Ha sido mi primera experiencia con el bolsillo con cremallera y la verdad es que me daba un poco de miedo, pero ha resultado más fácil de lo que esperaba.

He visto muchos tutoriales en la web con este tipo de monederos, así que no sabría decir si he seguido alguno concreto... sabía el tamaño final que quería (más o menos) y buscaba un acabado en forma de sobre, así que me puse manos a la obra.

Utilicé la tela French lace sky de Tula Pink, comprada en Alewives hace unos meses. El exterior va entretelado en algodón y al final me he arrepentido de no haber puesto algo de fliselina entremedias para darle un poco más de rigidez, aunque sin ella consigo esquinas más pulcras.

While encouraging myself to sew the top, I made a little wristlet wallet for my mum, to carry keys, cash, credit cards, etc. It´s been my first time with a zippered pocket, and it was a little scary, but it became easier than I thought.

I´ve seen so many tutorials on internet with this kind of wallets that I wouldn´t be able to say if I´ve  followed anyone... I knew the final size I needed (or so...) and I was looking an envelope appearance, so I just went ahead.

I´ve used this French lace sky fabric from Tula pink, bought at Alewives a few months ago. The exterior is interlined with cotton, and maybe I should have used some fleece between fabrics, to get more stiffness, but without the fleece I get sharper corners.

En su interior tiene un pequeño bolsillo para tarjetas, el cierre es con velcro y el bolsillo para las monedas queda en el exterior al levantar la solapa. También he añadido una pulsera para la muñeca y un pequeño mosquetón para engancharlo en el interior del bolso:

It has a little card pocket inside, closes with velcro, and the coin zippered pocket gets outside when you lift the flap. I´ve also added a little wristlet with a hook to attach the wallet to the interior of a handbag:

 

 

Qué os parece? Me gusta que parezca un sobre y me encanta la tela y el mosquetón de color bronce antiguo!

Mi primer proyecto con la Talent - Pantalones para niño / My first project with "Talent" - Kid pants

Sí, ya se que dije que lo primero que haría sería coser un top para mi, pero... suele suceder que acabo cosiendo algo para mi niño. Además, tenía que practicar con la máquina nueva y este proyecto es muy sencillo, y es casi imposible que salga mal!

Utilicé esta tela que compré en ikea y que tambien me ha servido para hacer bolsitas para el jardin infantil y para guardar algunos juguetes:

I know, I know I told you that my first project with the new machine would be a top for me, but...as usual, I ended up sewing something for my little kid. I also had to practice with the Talent, and this project is so simple, and it´s almost impossible to fail!

I used an ikea fabric that I´ve also used to sew some bags and cases for kindergarden and home toys.

Es la segunda vez que coso pantalones para el pequeño, y la última vez lo hice empleando el tutorial de Made. 

Esta vez empecé igual; utilizando como patrón los primeros pantalones, tracé los nuevos añadiendo un margen de 2 cm + el margen de costura (1 cm) y ensanchando un poco la zona de la cintura, que me había quedado muy estrecha:

 This is the second time that I sew this kind of pants for my little one; last one I did it following Made´s tutorial.

This time I started the same way; using the first pants as pattern, I traced the new ones adding 2 cm and a seam allowance (1 cm), and expanding the waist area, wich was a little narrow last time:

Después marqué el patrón sobre la tela. Para ello utilizo un marcador que se borra en una hora, es utilísimo pero... hay que darse prisa en cortar! Nada de "hoy dibujo y mañana corto", jejej.

Then I traced the paper pattern onto the fabric, I use a 1-hour-fading marker, wich is really useful, but you must cut the fabric quickly!! There is no "Well, I draw today and cut tomorrow..."

Lo que más me costó con los pantalones la última vez fue coser el tiro, porque en el tutorial de Made es lo primero que se cose, y después me resultó muy dificil casar el final del tiro con las costuras interiores de las perneras, así que esta vez utilicé el método de La Inglesita en este tutorial de su Sew Along, cosiendo las perneras por separado y metiendo después una dentro de la otra y cosiendo el tiro... y es muchísimo más sencillo!!

No hice fotos de esta fase, pero tengo el resultado final:

What I found trickiest last time was sewing the crotches, since in Made´s tutorial this is the first step, but after doing it, it was hard to match the end of the crotch with the inner seams of the legs, so this time I used the method explained by La Inglesita in her Sew Along Tutorial, sewing each leg separately and then slipping one into another and sewing the crotches, and this is so much easier!

I don´t have photos of this step, but here is the final result:

Un dobladillo un tanto extraño, creo que estaba perezosa cuando llegué ahí.

Y muchas puntadas de prueba, mejor no lo enseño por dentro! Al ser mi primer proyecto con la máquina nueva, era de esperar que las cosas fueran un poco diferentes que con la antigua, pero la verdad es que  ha sido muy sencillo acostumbrarme. La mayor pega que le encuentro es que no me gusta el pie de la Singer, es demasiado grande y curvo para mi..

A kind of weird hemming, but I thik I was lazy when I got to this step.

And a lot of testing stitches inside. Better no showing it!! Since it was my first project with the new machine, I was expecting some different things, but the fact is that it´s been easy for me to get used to the new one. Te biggest trouble that I found is that I don´t like the Singer presser feet, it´s too big and curved for me.
